Conducting Analyses

In order to analyze your data correctly and with as little error as possible, you will need the following:

  1. Your quantitative monitoring objectives
  2. Data
    1. Original sample design (GIS files)
    2. Stratification you want to report on (e.g., ESDs, etc.)
    3. Reporting units (e.g., sage grouse focal areas within a field office, etc.)
    4. TerrADat plot summaries
  3. What you want your end product to be (e.g., maps, graphs, tables, etc.)
  4. Tools to conduct analysis (e.g., R, Excel, etc.)

Communication with the National Operations Center (please contact Emily Kachergis at or Sarah Lamagna for instruction on analysis)

Analysis Tools:

As a reminder, the National Operations Center along with the Agricultural Research Service – Jornada Experiemental Range are developing tools to streamline the analysis and reporting process. Please check back often to see additional tools and resources.

TerrADat (feature service and Geocortex site)

As stated above, TerrADat is currently a feature service that reports out site-level summaries (i.e., by plot). TerrADat data will need to be gathered in order to conduct any analysis done with AIM data. For more information on the TerrADat feature service, please refer to the TerrADat Instruction Manual. Currently, only DOI employees are able to access the feature service. The National Operations Center is finalizing efforts with an AIM Geocortex map viewer where data will be more easily downloaded and used in analysis and reporting.

More to come…

Simple Horvitz-Thompson Estimator Tool

The simple Horwitz-Thompson indicator estimator is a tool for producing quick estimates of indicators either by an entire study area or by stratum within a study area from a CSV file exported from a user’s DIMA or TerrADat. It is not intended to serve as a final analysis tool.

Sp Survey Tool

This group of functions implements algorithms for design and analysis of probability surveys. The functions are tailored for Generalized Random Tessellation Stratified survey designs….
